Savannah's famous musical resident, singer, song-writer, Johnny Mercer (statue near City Market).


 


 

John Herndon "Johnny" Mercer (1909-1976) was born in Savannah and was an American lyricist, songwriter and singer. He wrote the lyrics to more than 1,500 songs - many for movies and Broadway shows. Some of his lyrics: "Too Marvelous for Words" - "Jeepers Creepers" - "You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby." - "And the Angels Sing" - "Fools Rush In" - "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)" - "Come Rain Or Come Shine" -
